How do we select our families?

One of the most important questions any responsible breeder can be asked is:

“How do you ensure your puppies are going to safe, loving homes?”

At True2Gold, this isn’t just a step in our process—it’s a core philosophy. Every puppy we raise deserves a future where they are not only cared for, but truly valued as part of a family.

Our Approach: Thoughtful, Personal, and Proven

We take a relationship-first approach when placing our puppies. This means we don’t just “sell dogs”—we carefully match each puppy with the right home environment.

1. In-Person Visits at the Ranch

Whenever possible, families visit us here on the ranch. This allows us to:

  • Meet them face-to-face

  • Observe how they interact with our dogs and puppies

  • Answer questions and share expectations

It’s not about interrogation—it’s about connection. We’re looking for alignment, not perfection.

Our families will be with us for the next 15 years, so the connection is important. We want to know that they will listen to our advice, follow holistic principles, research their own questions and make wise decisions about their puppy.

2. Understanding the Home Environment

We take time to learn about:

  • Family structure and ages of children

  • Work schedules and who will be home with the puppy

  • Lifestyle, activity level, and daily routines

This helps ensure the puppy will transition into a stable, attentive, and engaged environment.

3. Identifying the “Why” Behind the Puppy

One of the most important (and often overlooked) factors is motivation.

We gently explore:

  • Is this a long-term family commitment?

  • Or is it a short-term decision to satisfy a child’s request?

Puppies grow into lifelong companions. We want families who understand the responsibility beyond the excitement.

4. Virtual Vetting for Long-Distance Families

Not everyone lives nearby—and that’s okay.

For families who are farther away, we schedule FaceTime calls where:

  • They walk us through their home and yard

  • We meet all household members

  • We get a real sense of their environment

This ensures distance never compromises quality placement.

5. Ongoing Visits Build Confidence

Many families choose to visit multiple times after puppies are born.

These visits allow:

  • Deeper connection with the puppies

  • Stronger relationships with us

  • Greater confidence on both sides

By the time puppies go home, it feels like a natural and trusted transition—not a transaction.

What We’re Really Looking For

At the heart of our process, we’re asking one simple question:

Will this puppy be loved, understood, and included as part of the family for life?

We look for families who:

  • Enjoy being around dogs—not just owning them

  • Understand the work involved (training, cleaning, consistency)

  • Are excited about the journey, not just the puppy phase

A Culture of Care

We deeply appreciate when people ask questions about puppy safety and wellbeing. It tells us something important:

There are people out there who care—and that’s exactly who we want in our True2Gold family.

Because when the right puppy meets the right home, something powerful happens:

A bond is created that lasts a lifetime.

Final Thought

Responsible breeding doesn’t end when a puppy is born—it continues throughout the life of the dog.

And every step we take afterward is designed to protect, nurture, and elevate the life of each dog we bring into the world.
